Although I’m relatively new to airbrushing, I have been using a double action airbrush for a few years. It’s only since finding this forum, I would I to learn more.

I’m not a profession paint sprayer, yet over the years and. I picked up various techniques and skills, which enable me to carry out unnoticeable vehicle bodywork repairs, in a sense, what is referred to as Smart Repairs.

To repaint repaired area’s such as small rust blisters, stone chips etc, I use the airbrush
to ensure the repaired area remains as small as necessary, and with a blending technique, I achieve an unnoticeable repair.

I have recently bought a new airbrush (double action), it’s a relatively in expensive model, costing just under £30, it’s actually the very same model as the one I have used for years, which I use with large propellant cans and 2 pack automotive paint.

However, when I spray onto the vehicle’s body panels, an excessive amount of over spray is crated, when I use the same technique and paint on paper, the finish achieved is perfect with no over spray.

My old airbrush never produced excessive over spray.

Does any one have any ideas, as to what I could doing wrong?

I can't tell you for sure...omly thing that comes to mind is Static..Somedays my parts get crazy Static..have to wipe down overspray after almost every color...I 've heard of gadgets to fix this..(never tried em)..best solution I've found is hose the hell outta the part with water, blow dry with the air hose..(wiping it with a towel just brings the static back)..Helps with me cut down on it sometimes..never perfect though..hope that helps

hanks for reply guys.

The paint is just referred to as automotive 2 pack, it require an activator, which is technically an hardener plus thinners. I'm unsure of the actual manufacturer, I have the paint mixed to order.

As for PSI, I guess your referring to air pressure? As I use propellant cans, I have no idea?
I've tried reducing the amount of propellant produced via regulator valve, it makes little difference.

In the past, I tend have the regulator valve in the half way position, if open the beyond this, feels too powerful, below halfway, it's not powerful enough.

I must admit, I do tend to wipe the are with a old towel prior to painting, which I have done for years, and I have never experience an over spray build up.

More idea and advice, if any, will be appreciated.

Too far away from the surface, Surface not smooth, Paint too much of a contrast, To low of air pressure. Paint to thick, and static, For static I use a dryer static sheet, just lightly wipe over the surface like a tack cloth.. Rick
