Well my friends, I got so fired up over Blinddog's thread with the dragon, that I felt I could finally use a piece of vinyl that I was saving!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Well, you have to learn by your mistakes. First off...I need bi-focals....getting old....weeding the tiny pieces proved to me that I need to go to the eye doctor....I can't see up close any more!!!! LOL Then, as I was weeding out every other piece and shading...then replacing the vinyl and going back and weeding out again, I thought I had my light direction right!!!!! Ya right!!!!! Check out the belly scales and you will see what I mean!!!! Well, I want to talk more about what went wrong, but the BENGAL'S game is coming on in 5 min!!!! Please no "looks great...keep up the good work comments" I don't like that when I know that I have f-ed it up (my ego isn't bruised by the truth). But, if anyone has advice to bring me further along....That is what I am looking for!:wink2:
Thanks Steel

Steel, sorry, my old eyes can't see what you are doing there. My dragon is just a chalk sketch to start with, and a pencil sketch for referencing detail. The weeding is a bear! You can drag your pic into your new Photoshop, and hit "save for Web". Set it to jpg, size it to roughly 800 pixels, and it should be about the right size. Love to see it up close.

BTW, I have been a Bengals fan since Kenny Anderson. HooDey!!!!!

Sorry to be behind, I have been up to my arse with the business. I walk by my dragon sitting on the easel and hang my head, but this weekend I will get back on it, same with the tutorial. One more hard push and it will be ready to preview.

well, hate to say it but....i think it's looking good Steel! I've tattooed that dragon, seems like it came from 'the Dragons of Pern" or something like that? COOOL dragon!

from Photoshop, go to "file" then "save for web"...that should take you to ImageReady where you can set file size and quality. On quality, you can set that to anywhere above 50 or so and not see much difference exept in how big the file is.....experiment with that! as imho, it's really cool when a big pic loads fast and still looks good....much to learn, eh? and seems like you're on fire with it!!

Steel, that is a cool looking dragon, you staying with black & white, or will you be adding color? Textures look very good so far!

What is your canvas and paint combo?

Well, had no idea what I was doing...so I just did what ever came into my mind.....gave up after a while and stopped trying.....it is a learning process and if I had my plotter I would have gone into more detail with the vectoring....I can't free hand yet!!!! hehehehehe.

I did take ya'll's photo shop advice and made to a size that isn't as big as you may like, but may make my work look...a little better!!!! hahahahahaha

Thanks all!!!! I have so much to learn Steel

p.s. I still will play with this practice piece....and learn from all the advice that my friends give.

hey cool, looks like it's etched in glass, Steel. How big are you doing it?

hey, just keep doin em, and look back at the ones before for reference as to where you wanna try more or less white in areas. working on black is my favorite thang!

Hey Skids!!!! The Drago is approx....10" by 10" Gave up trying to shade in area's due to the fact that I wanted to see what it looked like.....impatient!!!! LOL....I am gonna be getting my plotter soon(any recommendations on a 24"?) I am lazy....today fired me up....I am very happy with certain areas...others...I just filled the voids to get it done so that I could pull the vinyl!!!! hehehehe.....I could have done much more...like I said "LAZY" But at least I am pluggin and chuggin!!!

Goes without saying, better than I am doing that is for sure. I have no doubt that you will end up with how you want it to look.

Got faith in ya Steel.

To be honest, I haven't even been in the garage yet. Had to go back and get a second round of antibioatics. Should be done with them in about three more days. Feeling better but can't see a reasone to push my luck. (as if I had any)

Startin to look really cool now! You got the pic thing down, looks good. Keep on truckin. You've got the right spirit, play around and make it yours, there is still room to do that. If it messes up, start again. I have started my dragon 3 times! When it gets too messed up it becomes a striping exercise, then a large coaster, LOL. Next!

Looking forward to getting back to my dragon tomorrow so I can move on to Skeleton Sam for my Harley, he's next on the block. Off to post the tutorial now! (god I hope you guys like it, I am very worried it was a waste of a TON of time)

Doubt that it is a waste of time. I am far behind you folks and have a lot to learn. If nothing else you can be assured that you have taught something to at least one.
