Hi everyone,
Has anyone any experience with the Auto Air direct to metal primer?
I tried it a couple of times on very small areas and found that it scratched off easily. I wonder if I was putting it on too thinly. I need to paint a titanium bicyle frame and ideally would like to use AA throughout.
The tech info says it's great for any metal.
Anyone used it?

I haven't used it Ashley, but my friend Denise St.John has. Private message her about it, I'm sure she'll get back with you. ("Saint")

Although I have never used those paints I would have to ask how you prepped the existing finish and bare metal???

I have used it and had some success. You really need to pay attention to prep, it's the key to the DTM primer. Make sure it's sanded enough to have some tooth, but fine tooth. You don't want any big scratches showing through your primer. Give it a thorough cleaning with some wax and grease remover and then tack rag before laying primer. Make sure you lay down at LEAST 3 good light coats, heat setting between coats. I usually let the final coat sit for an hour before applying my base coat. Apply the base coat as you usually would, 3-5 light coats, heat setting between each. The DTM primer will scratch off if it's not set properly. I did a bike tank with this product and it turned out great. I plan on using it again in the near future.
I believe that water based products are the future of the industry, so we might as well start learning how to use them right.
