View Full Version : true fire mustang for a second time
As stated in my last post about this car. I had to go back and redo some things on it because I burnt it in a few spots when buffing it out. Newbie fuck up. So here is what I have come up with on this go around.
First time I did it:

Second time around. Please tell me which one you guys feel looks better. The first set of flames or this second set?

Looks good I can see the flames better! Koby rubbing and buffing is a art like everything else, it takes time! And still when I did autobody collision repairs, I still on occasion would burn crowns! Don't be to critical of yourself or you may become apprehensive everytime you do it! Things you can do not to burn!
1. Hand rub everything! you will end up with Popeye arms
2. Use finer compound
3. Add water when you buff! Don't added it to the can of compound. Add it with a sponge on the vehicle! Just squeeze the water on the area you are buffing!
4. The most important thing is to keep the buffer clean with a spur or ever and old screw driver will work! Just turn the buffer on and stick the cleaning item in to the wheel gently or it might take your arm off and clean the build up out off! Now this only works on them older type of electric or air buffers. If you are using one of those new slow double action buffers I don't know what to tell ya except keep the wheel clean from build up!
Edited: Just remembered, use masking tape on crowns and door, fender, hood, quarter panel, and trunk edges until you are satisfied with the big areas then remove and gently hit the edges!
Great tips Robert!!..Kudos!!
Lets see Opinions, Opinions :animal-smiley-040:
I'm not a Fan of that stylized Fire much..I see the subtle difference in your 2 works..Just not a fan either way....
Not knocking your work, Cuz that came out nice..Just the overall deal doesn't float my Rubber Duck. ..Can't say which is better.Sorry.:)

Looks good. I am no expert on flames, but i do like pretty things.
The second set of flames looks better because the flames are more defined and the first one looks a little too busy. The fact that you have three different sections of flames (IMHO) makes a difference as well. On the first car, the flames on the front of the main hood look like the very bottom of the fire, this is slightly counter intuitive because you have fire below it on the other two sections. On the second car, the flames on the hood look more drawn out and blend more with the other sets of flames, making a more flowing set of flames. The main hood flames on the first car look a little broken up from the other two sets.
I think it is definitely an improvement. My current flames look a lot like your first try. I tend to busy it up too much, and when that happens you usually lose a little definition. I think definition in flames is important.
Hope this helps,
Derek

I don't know jack about flames....yet......but I do know what I like and I love that flame job. I am a big fan of blue flame. I would like to get the skill to do this with my car some day, until then I'll sit back and admire yours. :)

I like the second effort better--it seems to have more depth. I kind of prefer blue fire to the original red, orange, yellow true fire. That being said, my Fender P-bass Special is done in original true fire instead of blue....it was my first real try with fire and I wanted to get a handle on the shapes of the licks and building the layers before I moved on to blue fire. Still haven't tried green fire yet though.
