Has anyone perfected chrome paint yet. I tried it about two years ago and it came out ok but I didn't like it that much so I covered it with Kandy and loved it. Gonna do some more soon. Thinkin about an alien spider on guitar with a glow in the dark skull.

i haven't tried it but craig fraser has a great dvd i have that teaches how to do chrome. it looks like real chrome to me, but i sorta sold my dvd player to get an iwata airbrush.
id played it enough until its mostly in my head.. he uses
white background, sprays in over-reduced black for the lines that seperates the top is a hard edge and below the line is a soft edge.. and do soft shadows. then come in with white for highlights or spots that reflect light. comes back with oriental blue for dustin high shadow's .. well thats to give it the mercury look.. which was what he was going for.
dont know if that helps but the lines he was doing was very very fine lines, he drops down soft shadows and above it does harder shadows.. if all of this makes any sense.. maybe something will help out.
one day i'll try it out, i hadn't yet, i just incorporate alot of stuff in my mind and then i go out and try it out

Kosmic Krome - why couldn't it be slightly cheaper!!!
I'm on gotpaint.com as Pinkustoms and seen some kewl kosmic krome sprayed on by first timers. I dont suppose anybody know if the coverage is about the same as other bases such as hok pearls?
for instant, does kosmic krome spray further or about the same as hok designer pearl base does? just thought to throw that question out there. i would like to try some.. even thought about putting a bunch of kewl graphics on the hood of my car, but can't imagine what the other driver is saying when the sun reflects off my hood into their eyes? oh well, anybody sprayed it??

I've used mirror chrome once and talked to Craig about it but that was a couple years ago. Just wondering if things have changed in since. When I did it you had to use black and let it dry then buff the black and spray the chrome. I've also talked to people that won't do it cause it's too much work and they can't get the affect they want. I wish I would've know you had DVDs for sale.

It was an expensive experiment for me. I did a pair of fiberglass bumpers for a pro street Chevy. What a pain in the ass. Looked great before clear but they went satin after clear. There's not much adhesion there either. I didn't use the Alsa clear, but did use a 4:1 no solvent clear. Results may have been better with there clear. But for the effect, and possible delamination, add the cost....it's not for me. Not yet.

I have been experimenting with chrome "paint" since all that was available as that mirror resilvering stuff. I am yet to find a product that works or doesn't need special equipment to apply. Someone told me about this place (see link) but I am yet to try it myself.

That would be great Steven. I am tired of buying stuff that doesn't work. I received some Xotics (non chrome) paint today and it looks pretty nice. I am going out of the country for a week in the morning so I haven't had a chance to paint with it yet. I am anxious though.

I'm curious about this too, pro painter friend just picked up some of ALSA's chrome paint, and it's SOOOO expensive. I'm very interested in cheaper alternatives.

Last time I saw Dave Monnig he had a motocross bike fender that they had just done, matt black and chrome paint effects, only the chrome looked 'brushed', like a brushed metal finish...cannot remember for the life of me what Dave said about achieving this look.

You can achieve this effect by dragging a worn out scotchbrite pad across the chrome before you clear it.Go only in one direction though. There are many effects you can get with this stuff. You can even scuff the black base BEFORE applying chrome.Have some fun.

Thanks! Wow, ask and you shall receive!

Biggest concern I have is not the various effects like you described, they sound like fun, but what success has been achieved in clearing the final result in such a way as to not dull the chrome patina? That seems to be the big issue with this stuff, any help would be appreciated......
