And here I thought you'd given up the airbrush for a stand up comic career! Nice work Len, very clean well executed, man, I'm impressed. What brush you using? Those lash strokes are truly amazing!

Hey Len,
Just listened to your phone message!!!
That is very good len for a first eye!!!
What paint are you using?...are you diluting it?
What air pressure are you working at?
Here are a few items I would watch out for Len:
-When working on eyes, be very very careful with the placement of the pupil in the center of the iris. This can really ruin a perfectly executed eye.
-Dont be scared of using the Xacto and the eraser...you can always come back and add paint if you remove too much. By removing paint and adding some and removing and... well you get it, you create more depth to your painting. You have to work with very diluted paint to obtain this efffect....and in very small quantities of paint.
-Try adding paint the the skin area between the eyebrow and the eye itself. The eye brow looks like its floating up there. The eye is set back a bit from the eyebrow and you have to create this effect and roundness. To do this, do a very light fog of paint then create the highlights with your soft erasers. Go very smooth because you dont want to create eraser lines. Remember smooth!!!
-Remove more paint in the center area of the lower eye lid. This is where most of the light its it. It should be lighter in the center but a little darker at each ends.
Hope you dont mind these constructive criticisisme!!!
Very happy to see you jumping on the portrait band wagon!!! You are off to good start my friend!!! remember, the eye is the most difficult part of any facial feature to master.

Thanks everyone for the pat's and crit's.....I wasn't even gonna do it tonight but got an itch that needed scratching!!!!
Whit...thanks you for all your help!!!! WINK..WINK:wink2: I am so confused right now I don't know which way to turn!!!!:hail:
Josie...I just love the Driscoll's!!! So much to learn...You have them too!!!???? it is a small world isn't my friend!!!!:wink2: LOL I just used the eraser and exacto on the pupil and lower eye lid highlight's. And also in a few area's where I had too much over spray!!!! first time....I am so pumped!!!!!!!!!!
Luc! I am using Auto Air...trans black...1:2 dilution with 50/50 H20/Fantastick. The stuff doesn't erase well....it is meant to stick tight. I am shooting at about 20 - 25 psi....henceforth the over-spray that you are seeing. I will save this piece and a year later will post it back up....LOL But right now I am pumped with it!!!! Thanks for all your advice. You and anyone else can offer any suggestions that you feel will help me along. That's what this place is all about!!!!
Thanks my friend's,
Len

Oh...Auto Air...this certainly explain the difficulty in errasing. Your right that stuff is made to stick.
I recommend some Com-Art paint for this kind of stuff Len. It is very very thin, you can easily go down to 15PSI. I noramly start with a micture of 60% water and 40% paint. I will never be too transparent.
Good idea to keep and put a date to it. You'll have fun comparing with your progress!
...and you have all the reason to be pumped!!

REally good go, brush work. :o LOL. If your using Auto Air you can get it to erase just have to adjust the mix. On my skull seat it's Auto Air and it has spots i've erased for effect. Just thin it out like 4 parts reducer to 1 part paint and turn your pressure down to 12-15psi. If it's still sticking too much sub some of the reducer for distilled water and it will take some of the bit away. Hope that helps.

Wow Clinton!!!!...that much reducer???? I'll try your advice. Thanks!!! From watching Driscoll's DVD's...I couldn't tell where he was painting at times. I guess that is what you are telling me....thin...thin...thin. That's why Luc was asking me what paint and PSI I was shooting.....too much to quick eh???
Thank's,
Len

Clem thanks for the pat!!! As far as the reducing....that's what makes this place so great. The people here aren't stingy with the help and little tricks. I was shocked that you could reduce down that far too!!!
Clinton

Make sure and try it on something before you go that far with the reducer. When I go 400% it's usually with the detail colors. Noticed your using the transparents, just go as far as you think you need. I'll see if I can post a pic up tomorrow with the sade I would use side by side with the straight up paint if that would help you at all.

Thanks Clinton! I am already using a reducer 2:1 with the AA's, and the first time I tried these tech's, I had no success with erasing. If you have the time, anything that you can post will benefit us all! I have distilled H2O at work, so I'll play with that too! Thank's Len
