t-shirt board sizes

Are there standard widths that you make shirt boards? Something like a XL shirt is xxx inches wide a small childs is xxx wide? I want to make a few but wonder if I can make them before getting the shirts or are them made to the actual shirt?

i resontly made my own boards out of masonite (sp) and I did it about the same way as denise only i cut all mine with a jig saw at home, I all so am gonna make one for "tall tee's" soon
