I posted this once before but since it was the last sign I built personally before I became ill, and it was kind of a challenge for me, as we had to design the structure to Florida sign code, which is 150 mph windload.

This is the sponsor sign for the Flamingo wading pool at the entrance to the Miami Metrozoo. We have signed many of the major national zoos over the years. The material is digitally imaged proprietary phenolic resin, with the digital prints embedded permanently into the resin. They are guaranteed for ten years outdoors. It is based on a T1066 aluminum spine, to which the signs are attached with stainless hardware (mostly concealed). There is a matching spine that goes into concrete in the ground, and this graphic portion bolts to it at grade level.

Sorry for the crappy pic, its a phone cam......

Thanks for posting Scott. I started the Sign Making area because of the number of sign people here (and because you suggested it), and it has gotten very little traffic. Maybe this will stir some interest and get it moving.

I'm the world's worst about posting my work. I should have filled this place up already. After all, I make signs for a living.

Nice piece by the way. Good balance and very little unnecessary fluff to distract from the message.

Thanks all, it was a fun project. Ron, I was happy to see the sign making section too, so I thought heck, I got to support it and post some work, since I am a sign guy. I will post a bunch as I find time to dig out the more interesting projects.......

Cheers all,

Yeah I remember this...Nicely done Scott!!

I dig seeing all your guys sign stuff..Most things I create are art for arts sake...Signs though, the art that HAS to serve a purpose..Much more difficult in my book...Always a pleasure to see what you Cats come up with!

Sign design is a delicate balance Rob. If you are a full blown graphic artist, sometimes it's hard to dial it back enough to get the message across. I find myself over designing all the time. Come up with a bang up design that just screams ART... then stand back and look at it and realize that the message the sign is supposed to present is totally lost in the flash. Dial it back some, and it works, but sometimes it's frustrating watching artistic concepts get reduced to functional signage.
