Great Job, looks realy nice. Overhere I do'nt think we have many people left who can handle the old school handpainting letters. Customers wo'nt pay and just want sign applicated with vinyl.

Great job Whit. I like the classic look of it. It's a shame that so many people are opting for vinyl now days.

Ahhhhhhh-Whit. That sign is nice! I had an uncle in Cincinnati that spent his whole life hand lettyering signs, mostly "showcards" for Avon. Anyone out there that knows the term showcard can appreciate the old school lettering and sign business. Anyway, when he retired I was in the middle of my 1st career as a chef, and was too dumb to take him up on his offer to make me his apprentice. This was a few years before any computer sign making whatsoever. Years later I made som e side money hand lettering signs, and have never used vinyl in my work. I still hand letter the occasional board, anywhere from 2X3 feet up to 3X24 feet. Wish I had the pix to show you.
Oh, and BTW, it's a real pain to letter if you're left handed like me!!!

Should have taken your uncle up Paulyboy. He'd have taught you how to keep that left hand out of the paint. I'm left handed too. You know they say only left handed people are in their right minds. Too bad the only airbrush I've ever touched seems to be right handed.

Whit, you are a man after my own heart. A true taditionalist in the truest sense. I pushed the brush for many years myself and I can tell from eyeing your work, that, I would have been proud to work beside you. You sir are among the few of us true signartists that are still left. Thank you for sharing and I hope every one in here appreciates what the are looking at as much I do. Later, Quick.

Hey Whit, any pointers on brushes for a beginner to use? I assume you used one shot for all your sign painting? I have a background in canvas oil painting but nothing as far as hard surfaces
Mack makes a pretty good flat/quill for lettering,,,
here's some info on lettering and striping brushes,,,
but 1-shot rules,, well,, Ronan & Chromatic are nice
as well,,, really,, oilbase is the way to go here !!!
