i have a question about my Paasche VL brush. the concern/question came up when i put the #1 nozzle, needle, and head on it, my needle sticks out of the front cap as in pic. is this normal?
sorry for the poor pics but you should get the idea.

are you sure you have the #1 tip? That kinda looks like you maybe runnin the #3 tip.

I'll have to check at my studio tonite to be 100% sure, but I think the #1 needle protruded from my VL like that also--it's just been ages since I've used the #1 set on any of my VL's. I'll post tomorrow morning and let you know!

You should have 3 needles, 3 nozzels, and 3 caps.

You need to make sure that the airbrush has the #1 needle, nozzle, and needle cap are installed. The #1 needle is going to protrude a little further than the others, but you need to make sure you have the matched pieces installed so that your brush will perform properly.
If you have a number one engraved in the needle cap, then you have the right cap installed for your needle, the needle itself should have a single groove around the back end of it. There are no markings on the nozzles themselves, those you have to keep in their separate containers or recognize by size.

Ah yes, I stand corrected--that photo you show HAS to be a #3 head--the #1 head is longer and narrow. I remember why my #1 needle protruded like that--I had read somewhere that you could get better detail if you used a #1 needle with a #3 head and tip--it didn't quite work well for me though. I gave up trying to get detail with my VL's when I got my first Iwata HP-C+. Now I've got 2 HP-CH's and a Custom Micron CM-C as well, so I only use my VL's for spraying backgrounds, pearls, metallics, and water-based protective coats like top binders.
