Hi all,
I'm really a rookie at this so please bear with me. I am going to be spraying HOK onto silver plate and gold plate for fishing lures. (Trolling spoons) One of the biggest gripes in the fishing community is paint adhesion (lack there of) on the spoons and I was wondering if there's anything special I can do to make sure the paint stays where it belongs. I realize that nothing lasts forever and that it is normal that once the paint gets a nick, scratch, chip.. it is going to start to peel, but there are brands out there that start to peel after a couple of hours in the water. I want to make sure my product doesn't do that. Any advice??
Thanks for all your help!!

Hmmmm, I know the abuse a lure takes...Painting directly on metal it'd be best to sand aggressive..Like 80 grit, then Prime and paint....BUT, You probably wanna keep the shine? (gold/silver plating).

That way the only thing i could think of..Alsa has a clear coat for metal...They do comparisons of their's to regular clear..Looks like it hold up great (never tried it)....You could clear with that 1st thing (use it like a primer). Then scuff it and paint to how you want..Then final clear it again.......That's about all I can come up with.

here's a link to that Alsa stuff.

Thanks Dell... Looks like a cool product. I had never heard of Alsa before. Their catalog is on the way! Thanks again!

Have ya thought about powder coating. Buy yourself and old stove for $25 bucks and get to work. I think it might screw up Thanksgiving if ya use your home stove. They also make glow powder that you could bake on. I got some glow powder out of Gimli Canada that works on lures that way.Check the Eastwood catalog for that stuff also. That would be the way I would go. The other thought would be to dip the lure in some metal cleaner the wipe and buff right away, then put your clear on.
Now ya got me hungry for fish.
