Name and Logo for business

Hey everyone,

So I went down and registered my name today. They said I could change it no problem if I decided to go another way (who knew). I ran a list of possible names past my wife an kids (independently of each other) and then counted up the votes. Only two of them had all four votes. Black Sun Body Art and Art and Body Tattoo.

Black Sun Body Art won out.

I've attached a little something that I whipped up for a logo concept. Any thoughts on the name and logo would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I should be up and running within the next three to four weeks. My equipment is ordered and I'm going to spend a little time practicing on the family before I start trying to charge for my work.

It's my first business, so I don't mind telling you that there's a little stress involved, but I'm confident it will work out well.

That is a great name and a great Logo, It would look good on a Tshirt, The girls I am helping set up their Business, are at the stage of Practicing, you must let us know how it goes for you.

I think its a great name! But your images is an eclipsed sun? I think the sun should be visually complete but very very dark! Just my opinion!

I see your from PR. Man , I sure could use some of that Caribbean heat right about now.
As far as the logo, here are my thoughts. Lose the black box and have some black rays, maybe tribal style coming off the circle. And wrap the text around the circle as well. I've got a few other thoughts, but I'm out of time.I'll be back on tonight. Good luck with your new business.

i think robert has a point about it being an eclipse.. do an opposit do a beautiful sun rise with all the bright colors then like GCA said do some black rays.. but I do like the Name.. play around some more..

I'll chime in from the commercial/practical side of things.
How would you have this as an ad in the Yellow Pages?
Think small and black and white type images, with little or no grayscale or screens.
At least for your area, could the name imply something completely different than what you had intended?

If you were going to carry on with this name, I would do the black sun with the black rays, maybe done tribal, coming off of it. Maybe a version of the name with the black sun replacing the "O" in the word Body.

You always have to look at worst case scenerios, for how things would be printed (tiny and black and white) and how names might be misconstrued.
For the graphics side, if you can do the basic logo as a simple black and white, it lets you do more colorful versions where they can be used, but lets you have a logo that can be printed easily, and photocopied for fliers, placements in brochures, newspaper ads, etc.

Just thoughts from the cheap seats.
