Hey guys,
been busy lately, but here is a little test panel for an Outlaw Legend race car I am doing for a big car show event here in Calgary next week..
let me know what you think...I have never done fire like this before, so it looks a little messy? maybe?
Give me the straight goods everyone...I got thick skin!
(and real tears too....) Kidding!

Haven't a clue, but it looks great, don't think there is right or wrong as it is every ones interpretation of what fire is, what I like is the colours and the nice flow, without the heavy stencil effect you see some times, so thumbs up from me.

Looks great Mob, if it were me I'd lighten up on the overspray (less not a lighter colour) a little, that's just personal preference. Other that it's a job well done. Good colours and the shapes are perfect.

I agree. I think the only thing that might punch it up is hitting that overspray with some darker green candy to push it back a bit further. That will really make the foreground POP!!

WOW!!
Thanks everyone!!
ALso thanks for the tips on how to make it pop a bit more. With traditional colored fire, you have the pagan gold or candy yellow of some kind to add the zing, but this green fire is a bit different.
I do like it alot though, it will make its way into some of my upcoming projects, thats for sure!
Again, thanks for all the kind advice and I will post some results as soon as I have 'em!

Can you do a How to on this one. Lots of people including myself would learn from it to do this amazing fire. I have not started doing some green true fire, but would really want to know the basic of this one. Man that's really amazing fire. I know that you use some yellow and green kandy but that's about it. The step in this technique must be crucial in what the overall looks like when completed. Maybe someday in 12 years from know if and I say IF i'm good as you are I will be able to give you some technique on something that you don't know (LOL... I don't really think so but I would if it happens)
thanks MOB

Thanks again guys!!
Man, have I mentioned...ever...in the past, that I FRIGGIN' LOVE this site?
This fire, Airdoom, is the easiest, (in my opinion) to do...because there is only two main colors to it, at least the way I've done it so far: HOK Chrome Yellow, and HOK Kandy Organic Green Koncentrate. I also add Pagan Gold Kandy Koncentrate as a last coat when I'm all done my hilites and all details.
I will definately post a how to on this, and hopefully it heps ya!

I also have a mini race car I just cleared to show ya...wil post pics right away, so go have a look and let me know what you all think!
Thanks guys, you're all awesome! and Mitch, nice to hear from ya Buddy! Will catch up wit' ya soon man...I look forward to it!

Keep on Sprayin'

ok ok here we go!! you've come to the right place glassman! Thanks Jimmy!

I am very glad to see you are using the best products for producing real fire..HOK is the true leader for the right colors...(I wish I got paid to hype them like that!)
the steps i use are as follows:

1. lay down a loose 'sketch' of where you want your fire to go with your molly orange. (Mike Lavallee calls this a 'roadmap')

2. next, lay down a coat of kandy apple red intensifier (let me know if you have ??? about mixing) evenly over the whole area. Now, I go REAL heavy with this stage because I like my background fire to be really dark, orange/red..but you will find your own style and find the color s that you like the best...go with your gut feeling)

3. next start drawing out the fire shapes in more detail..I use a stencil for part of this step, to get the crisp, clean edges down..just don't over do it with the stencil, or it will look to ridgid and not 'real' any more...we'd have to change the name of it to 'stencil fire' not real fire...(that is my attempt at humour..just laugh and we can all move on here...ok, thanks) oh for this stage I use the chrome yellow again..

4. go over your first layer of detail shapes with your kandy tangerine, this will tint everything to an orange color, be sure to leave some areas a little more yellow than others..this will look llike hotter spots and will look killer later!

5. now start adding some more detail shapes..same as step 3, but put some overlapping your previous shapes, and also build on your existing shapes too...make 'em look as natural as you can...sometimes the shapes that look 'wrong' to you and me, are the ones that look the best later!

6. now go back over it with kandy orange(tangerine) and this time lightly!

7. you can decide to use this or not, but I add a little more hilites and hot spots in certain areas with a combination of chrome yellow and a few drops of white, this pale yellow will look almost white against the orange/red/yellow colors you have layed down already. just randomly add this yellow/white mixture to where ever you think the fire shapes would have heat...but just go easy on this step, less is more!

8. now my FAVORITE step..kandy pagan gold! Go over the whole area with this and don't be stingy! Let it all out! Just don't lay on too thick all at once..just put on 4 or 5 coats (at least I do) to achieve a really glowing look to the fire..this will be more apparent once you clear it! trust me, you'll love it!!

9. sign that sucker and clear it!!
Thats it..sounds MUCH more complicated than it really is, just find some ref pics of fire and use it to guide you through.

Any other ??? feel free to ask, I love to see others version s of fire, it si the coolest trend in custom paitn (in my opinion) in a long time, and I LOVE to paint it!

Nice to meet ya and I hope this helps you out...let us all know how it works for ya..post lots of pics and alert the local fire dept. before you start!
