The latest 'rush' job. Got delivered to me this morning...worked my 10 hour full time shift..then blasted this off in about an hour! Talk about a rush!
Although, I will admit the detail is not there, I do like this green fire thing...easy to do and looks very toxic.
Let me know what you think guys!

Thanks guys...
I wish I had more time on it to dial in some of the details, especially in the skulls...but..I guess the customer wins again!!
I will do better on the next one...but, DAMN they are small!!
I like painting on a 'little' bigger canvas a bit better...but definately takes me outside my comfort zone..
Thanks again guys!

Actually MOB detailed fire is an over emphasized trait that most custom painted flames always seem to have! I know its expected but a real burning flame doesn't have that much detail. Unless it is reaching for more fuel to burn or oxygen and then its usually at the upper part of the fire! Actually the old 50s - 60s Hot Rod flames come closer to real fire because it always has a large base before the flames start licking! Using candies, pearls, and or flip-flop colors in combinations over the old type of Hot Rod large base out line and then adding what they call today's real flames over the old base out line of the fire licks would be a closer look of a true fire than anything being painted today! At least that is my opinion, I'm 54 and have been looking at flames on cars for many years! Some of my friends and I set fire to my neighbors out house attached to their garage back in the Fifties when I was 5 years old playing with matches! So you might say I've been mesmerized to the point of being hypnotized by fire for many years! I love burning different kinds of wood to see what colors they burn! They also have different smells! Have ya ever set fire to a empty bleach bottle? Ya start it burning and hold it up three or four feet from the ground and as the plastic burns and drops the fiery plastic has an audible whistle and a smoke trail as it drops to the ground! My older brother use to set up the green plastic soldiers in a battle formation with trenches and all! Then he would bomb them with a burning bleach bottles! I think thats enough fire stories tonight! Maybe some camp fire burning stories another time! :whew::snapoutofit: Bobby Boy! :flames::thumbsup:

Did you use a regular clear on this. I have a few I want to do myself but I'm worried about it chipping cuz most people use their cues in bars. They get knocked over and scratched and whatever else. Just wondering if it's durable enough.

Thanks again guys!
As far as clear goes...I used a urethane clear out of a spray bomb, that I purchased from an autobody shop supply store here in Calgary.
As for the colors Raptor...just chrome yellow base, then kandy organic green, followed by more yellow 'detail' shapes, then a tiny bit more green kandy to tone it down a bit, then clear my man...easy as far the steps go..but just a pain 'cause of the size of it!
Thanks for the questions guys...anytime!
Keep on Sprayin'

Hi there, This is my first post on these forums.
I actually picked up 2 pool cues at an auction and one of them was scratched in a couple of places so I thought I would dig out my airbrush and give it a shot. That's how I found this forum (Google search: Airbrush a pool cue)
My plan is to do something simple as I'm a complete beginner with the airbrush other than practice dagger strokes and stuff. Then try to sell off one of the pool cues :) $$$ We shall see how well the airbrushed one turns out to see if I keep it or not.
Questions:
- What sort of prep did you do on the cue before you started?
- Did you spary the cue while it was taped to the toolbox or did you have it held in another way?
- Did you have any issues with running paint?
- The paint you used, was it bottle to airbrush cup or did you thin it down first?
- Any other details I might look out for before I put my cue in front of my airbrushes?
- How much did you charge for it? Or was it your customers cue and you just airbrushed it?
(Sorry if asking price is taboo)
From the sounds of it, a pool cue isn't a very good newbie airbrusher project, but I've never been one to not try something because it's not for beginners.
Thanks for making my idea a real possibility by providing pictures of your work!!! I might show pics of mine once I'm done if it's at least a 10th as good as yours. Should be fun in either case.

Thanks again guys!
Maxxpaane, I appreciate the comments!
Purrnak, no problem about the questions man, thats how I learn is by asking!
I prepped it with a grey scotch brite pad first, but make sure the end is taped off and also the connector piece.
Then I actually hung the cue upside down from overhead, I tied a piece of wire to the connecting threads in the centre of the cue, and then painted the cue black with HOK(house of kolor) base coat.
Then I taped it down and started laying in the colors and the details. just turning it as I went along.
When I was done, I hung it again and gave it 2 coats of clear coat. careful not to over do it while it is hanging, because it can run easily.
I hope this helps, and have fun! Lets see some pics of what you caome up with!
