Ok I was wondering the best starting point for learning? I've done a couple of r/c lexan bodies but simple paint schemes. Now I don't have much of an artist ability when it comes to free hand drawing but can't see me doing much of this as most of my painting will be done to 1/24 - 1/25 scale model cars. So should I start with the tutorials as it would give me expeirence with the control. I'm using a Paasche type H brush and a Iwata HP-CS using a small 1 gal air compressor with an air/moisture regulator. I was also just going to use the craft paint from the dollar store or do you recommend something different? I was also thinking of practising with a coloring book. Any recommendations would be great.

THANKS

Don't use the craft store paint, that stuff will piss you off quick, it's so thick and very globby, even when thinned. Use stuff that's meant for airbrushing, it is more expensive, but very worth it. I love golden airbrush colors, other's like etac, others comart etc. Auto air would work well for an rc car, but you gotta thin it just to warn ya. The coloring book is a good idea for practice, you also want to practice daggers and dots, if you're like me and don't want to just do millions with anything meaningfull, do a picture out of them, or paint a picture and make sure you have to use daggers and dots in it. We can tell you a lot of things to do and what works for us, but after you get the info from us you have to experiment yourself and find what works best for you. Have fun paintin' and make sure to post some of your work. :D :rogpen::boogie:

Whehehe, I only use Etac lol

Highly recommended (i know guys, said 'the hell with it...but i take that back) It has a nice flow & almost zero drytip.

all the info on where you can get it is in the ab-tech magazine. There are SUPER large ab-suppliers in the us.

Good luck on it.

Ok I'm not trying to be cheap but that paint seems rather expensive to learn with. I was thinking of starting with all the back to basics exercises and that sort of seems of a waste of good paint. Is there any other suggestions for paint to learn with?

Might look at something like FW inks, just to shoot at scrap paper for the exercises, thats what I started with, an have a blast away with every now an again, to get the feel back in, can dilute it down with water as well, I do about a 50/50 mix with the black.

Thanks I think thats what I might be looking at and save the good paint for later when my skills have developed

I would say just get a bottle of golden airbrush colors, just one bottle of carbon black to practice with, then you can focus on basics and you only spend the amount for one bottle. You can buy golden from bearair.com or dick blick or lots of places. Etac you can only get from them, look them up on the wed, I don't know the site offhand.
