View Full Version : newbe, first post
hey guys its my first post on this site. ive been on kustom kulture lounge forum for a lil while. but im new to airbrushing. i have some stupid questions and im glad this page is on here. i jsut got a new compressor. what air pressure do i want to use. do i want high or low pressure for more detail. and what should i normaly be spraying with? also. i saw in a video that you should take the head off the airbrush for finer detail. do you always do this? even when you dont need as great detail? and if so then why is it there? to protect the needle? thanks for all your help. i have tons more questions after this.
Airpressure all depends on the paint mix and your style...Some like less some like more....There is never ONE pressure you set it at that works for all...Don't worry about it..If it does what you want at 15psi keep it there...if ya have to crank it to 60 to make it work...As long as it works go for it.......I usually keep mine around 35 to 50....Depends on the paint or AB I'm using.
The aircap just protects the end of the needle....Some peeps take it off to get closer to the surface..Some don't...It's another thing that comes with preference and time....You'll find what works for you and what yer comfortable with....Just cause other peeps do it, doesn't mean a thing:D
cool thank you very much. that helps a lot.

Welcome to the board.
Dell is right, there is no one set airpressure. The thicker the paint, the higher the pressure...the thinner, the lower.
Lower pressure for doing fine detail (as low as your paint will allow)... and I don't take off the cap either, with most paints, for detail work. I DO take it off when I'm dealing with a highly pigmened paint, as tip dry happens faster. (dried paint builds up on the needle, and you need to carefully remove it, usually frequently)
Other than that,,,
