Hi all,

as you can see this is my first post, just wanted to introduce myself and maybe get some help on my new projects.

I have been airbrushing for about 10 years, simple stuff like shirts, jackets, sneakers, a few model cars. my set up is 2 iwatta eclipse, iwatta powerjet comp, spraying createx paint.

I work at an company that makes handheld labelmakers, usually when they are thinking of new color schemes they have our vendors in china provide painted samples to decide on, but that takes so long and cost crazy money.
so I have been asked if I could take some products home and apply new colors combinations, I have done it a few times but noticed that these labelmakers are being passed around a board room full of business folk manhandling them and the paint starts to rub and scratch off, I am getting paid for this stuff so I dont like the fact that it is not holding up.

my steps are light wet sand, clean with alcohol, mix paint with createx bond all,
then spray.
How can I make these hold up better?

Thanks.

Welcome from NY!!!

I'd guess yer label makers are made of plastic??...Createx isn't made for plastics if I'm correct...(could be wrong:D)........I'd get yer hands on some new paint...Something like Goldens or Etac for waterbase stuff....Or if yer set up for it get some Urethanes....(can't spray that stuff in a house tho).....For maximum durability you'll need to clearcoat it...Spray cans work in a pinch...will hold up to moderate abuse..(it wont rub off if that's yer only concern)...If ya wanna be able to throw em across the room and bounce em off the floor..You'd have to use a 2 part automotive clear...But the stuffs dangerous to spray if you don't have the proper safety gear.

I'm sure others will be along with some better ideas for ya:D

Thanks for the quick reply, I used some spray can clear on one of these parts and it held up great but the feedback I got was that they would like these in a matte finish similar to what we would receive from china. and the clearcoat make this too shiny.

maybe I can look for some different paints, it just sucks cause I have accumulated huge createx color library, but I think your right its not made for plastic.

You can buy matte/satin finish Clear coat in a spray can..I've used it lots....Any place that sells the shiny stuff should be able to get the other.

Yeah I dunno about the createx...Lots a folk use it for shirts/fabrics around here..But I don't think it meshes well with hard surfaces or clear coats....Damn near any paint will rub off with no Clear coat on it..

you should be able to pick up a can of matte clear......less gloss

Try experiment with rattlecan "flat" sheen clears....I have used those in matte finish.....If you can't find matte, then semi-gloss is a lot less shiny than gloss.....

I'm thinkin you lay a base of Auto-Air (acrylic enamel) then
your createx should lay on top no prob,, clear as suggested !!!
Good Luck on it
