Thought one of you guys may know a tip for my issue....Took out the Mustang windshield today...Used the ole piano wire trick...I sharpened a chisel and got 95% of the left over adhesive off....The rest is damn finicky though..LOL.

I tried an air grinder with a wire wheel on it..Just heated and smeared the stuff...Sand paper wont touch it...Laq thinner and such just smears it.

I wanted to get it all spiffy clean before Priming...Get in all the good spots:D....Might just have to keep scraping with a screwdriver till it's close enough...Or just not prime that spot, probably no reason to, that gunk will keep it from rusting I'd think..

Anyway, just wondering if anyone knows a trick to this..Or maybe it's no big deal, the new goo will seal right over the lil bits of the old??....I've never used that stuff...Not gonna this time either. There's a local glass guy that'll do the new install...I just wanna get it spiffy for him...Ideas anyone??....Thanks much!

Think its a chemical cleaner they use Mate, seen that stuff stick like hell, don't know if a heat gun then rub it off would work.

I'm pretty sure as long as you get rid of the big chunks you're good. Just gotta make sure it's gonna lay flat. Maybe you can use a heat gun and either flatten it out or help scrap it up. Bondo squeegees work for scrapin.

Hmmm..I have some Airplane paint stripper stuff...Boils the paint on a car right off...Might do the trick.

Seams to get smeary with heat..Almost makes a worse mess....Seems like a whole lotta shop rags either way though....hahaha!......I'll probably just keep testing anything that pops up..Somethings gotta work eventually.

Thanks for the brainstorming:D

EDIT..MM beat me to my reply.....haha!

Yup I gotter good and flat..It's just a skim coat left really...Comes up with scraping..But I'm not sure if it even needs to come off?...Like you said, flat may be good enough.........Be nice to prime that spot though...I'm not just gonna prime over left over gunk ya know...Thanks for playin:D

Dell if its the old windshield roll type Adhesive , Ive shot laquer primer on the area that the gooey crap is, Then let it Dry & use a good sharp puddy knive to remove it. Might take a few trys but it helps it from gooin all up on Ya .

Ive tried damn near everything thats the only thing That seems to make the least amount of mess . 3m Used to mak a high dollar adhesive remover Especially for that. not sure iffen you can get it anymore though, Since They,ve all Switched to Urothane Caulking for seals these days . Only way to remove the glass or that crap is with a special hot knife . I quit screwin with them years ago ,( Bought to many windows ) Just had The Guy come out & cutem out , & When I was ready He,d come back out & reinstall it. Best of Luck.

I was also thinking of maybe some M.E.K and a chore boy to remove it? M.E.K is a little more stout than acetone.

Thanks fellers:D

Hi Rise, That sounds like the most fun method..haha!..No idea where to get dry ice/cold spray tho..I don't really want to go hunting down materials..I'll stick to the screwdriver if it comes to that..LOL

Frog, nope haven't tried lighter fluid....I did make some progress with MaxxSolv degreaser, a rag and a wire brush....Messed a bit last night with it and got about half of it clean....Looks like that'll be the best route.

CB, that sounds like a spiffy trick too....Dunno what kind of adhesive it is..I'm guessing the stuff in the tube you apply with a caulk gun....Think I've seen that older stuff...Looks like a roll of Putty doesn't it??, ya gotta press it in there?? I've never tried to clean any of it..hahaa!..Never had to mess with a windshield.

Tried Kerosene last night too, worked alright, just messy...Seems smear after smear is easier then scraping tho...

Thanks for all the brainstorming everyone....There isn't a "done" date for this, Sooo, i'll just keep trying things an see what works..LOL

lacquer thinner, enamel reducer, grease and wax remover, acetone, or anything of that nature should remove it! It takes time and it is messy but thats just the nature of the beast!

Here are a couple of suggestions. I remove windshields all the time at work. Eastwoodco.com carries a product called XXX and it will remove the old windshield seal and adhesive very quickly and its like 11 dollars a can. If you dont want to buy or cant wait.. try some Acetone. And last what works really well is if you have a die grinder and some scotchbrite pads. the brown ones and the combination of the pad and grinder will make very quick work of it. You may need a few pads but at 1.99 each thats pretty cheap
