I'm with Blinddog on this one....My Ipod is set on random so it plays what I've loaded into it.

Steve, while working on "Boobs"...if you're into the "blues", give "Risque Rhythm" a spin! The CD has some great songs!!!

OMG, I was in the shop all day thinking about how I was gonna post the same poll when I got home! too funny.

I listen to everything from Cash to David Bowie to the Ramones, and lots of The Who, Supertramp, VanHalen, it totally depends on my mood and what I'm working on. 80's stuff gives me energy when I'm getting bored or too fumed-up! I share a shop, so I have a DJ - we get bad reception there and have no phone lines, cable lines etc, so most of the music is records (yeah, vinyl...!) So I seldom listen to newer stuff.
Awesome thread - music can tell so much about a person!
oh- and if I had a cd player there, I'd listen to Oingo Boingo. :) :) ;)

Actually when I'm working, I listen to CBC radio. But if the music mood hits, I like to listen to some Incredible Bongo Band, Pulp, Enya, T.P.O.H. and lots of BTO. I also have a soft spot for Rob Zombie too.

Don't worry I don't have one either.

I still have a collection of records yes the big round things that you need a needle to play, and over time they would start to snap, crackle, and pop when you played them........I think I even have the Beastie Boys on vinyl.

LOL, Frog, I am truly blessed. I will be in the studio, Bob Dylan on the iPod, and Mrs. Blinddog will come out with an occasional cocktail or a beer while I work. I count my blessings every day! It is my garage, but unlike most garages. Sealed & painted floor, full painted sheetrock, insulated, heated, daylight lit & air conditioned. So, used to be a garage, is now a small studio (660 square feet).

While creating; it definitely depends on what I am creating. I am primarily an inventor and sculptor, I do some of my best work out and about exposed to what ever stimulus hits me in public often with a notepad and source art in hand. But while in the studio it is most often dead silence while creating. If not that Tony Scott's, Music for Zen Meditation and Other Joys. Or it might be the upbeat and lively sounds of The Gipsy Kings (I do not speak Spanish.) Either way while creating I want background noise at most, and the ONLY words I want to hear are my own thoughts scrambling about my experiences, knowledge or perceptions in order to build something, a perception, expression or mechanical device that as far as I know is new or underdeveloped. Other than that I am pretty boring, mostly J.S. Bach and Beethoven.

I think we all could sometimes do with a good dose of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Whether we think so or not.

My favorite ex-wife once put him on the stereo while I was especially agitated and mopey. I said "I don't want to hear it" She said, "Tough Titty Said the Kitty! I'm going to play it anyhow."

Stevie and Double Trouble played all day long and I got my mind right and a lot of work done that day.

I listen to alot of old blues (mostly pre-war), plus some Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, G.D., burn-out music, mostly. lol.
If the mood strikes I'll throw in some Operation Ivy, old Grren Day, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Bloodhound Gang. I probably have waaaay too many CD's for my own good. It's not a rare occurance for me to be looking through one of my CD cases and find a CD that I completely forgot I had, or even exsisted.

Lol, Draggin, that sounds like my stuff. My signature is a line from Bob Dylan's Empire Burlesque, and my avatar is a Grateful Dead icon, the dead frisbee dog, lol........There is a point where you realize, you're defined by your music. Dylan just put an album out this past fall, so did Neil Young, and they're both critically acclaimed, and a pleasure to listen to. I have a Bose IPod base in my studio, just put on a mix, poke in the IPod and drift on.......

I also like punk, but Old School, like Airarts said. I have a friend in the sign business, he is in Boston. Was the second lead guitarist in the original Ramones......

no ipod here either, have xm on the tv, but if I played it loud enough to hear in the barn, I'd have cops here.
Depending on my mood, I have 2 stations on the radio, one is a mix of classic southern rock, ac/dc,hatchet,bono, boston, zepplin, pink floyd, van halen, stuff from the 60-80's, stuff with good beats, must feel the beat.
Other is country, cash , big n rich (woohoo love them! ) hank jr, charlie daneils, I think they call it hot young country, stuff with a beat.
The slower the tunes, the less motivated I am~
Have many others I like , but that's my workin tunes.

Other than hip hop or rap, I listen to almost anything when I paint, from Baroque and Medieval music on up to present day stuff. It depends on my mood and what I am working on. I find it easier to work with music that is in the same genre as the painting or illustration I am working on.

xzoticair, if you do get another Ipod, try wearing it on an armband rather than physically dragging it around, and try putting a piece of press and seal style plastic wrap on it BEFORE you start painting. It is probably getting filled with overspray, and that can't be good for it.

Depends on the subject. I had to do an Elvis last week, so it was Presley music. Othertimes it's folk, country, pop, rock - whatever. At easter it's usually Christmas songs - just to annoy my partner, so I get left alone to create! Occasionally it's bonzo dogs, if I really want to wild!
Best wishes to you all, from the crazy one!
