honda shadow plastic chrome..

I am trying to figure out how to paint the plastic chrome on my shadow.. air filter cover is plastic and has a chrome finish..
Do I have to take off the chrome and then prime with a plastic primer.. of can I just scuff it.. and paint it? and can I use exotic on plastic with the adheasion promoter..

Hey Sharon. Just finished a shadow and we did repaint the "chrome" side covers. We sanded them heavy with wet 600. the finish was a silver paint so it came off pretty easy. then a couple of coats of adhesion promoter. I use SEM but bulldog works as well. Then base as usual. Just follow the times recommended with the promoter that you use. Good luck.
