Hello again,
I have been gone for a bit and come back to find there are many more wonderful people here. So, I thought I would introduce myself.

I am 31( as of 2 days ago) Proud father of the most wonderful 4 year old little boy. I have been in the US Navy for 13 + years and can not wait to retire in just over 6. I am a Helicopter Mechanic, working on H60 Black hawks.

Currently I am deployed on the John C. Stenis CVN 74 Aircraft Carrier. I departed San Diego Ca. on 19 Jan this year and do not expect to be home until late September or early October. Anything can happen. I do know I will not see land for at least 60 more days. Long time to think about ABing and Pray I can learn something.

I have no artistic talent.

I ask many many many questions and sometimes ask the same ones in diff words.
I am a pain in the neck ask any that know me.
Smarta$$ is my middle name.
I am very happy to see that all of the hard work put into this site is paying off.
Ok that should be enough, just wanted to say hello to everyone again and really hope that I will not fall off the face of the earth again.

Ponderously,

JC

Hi JC, its just me. You say you have no artistic talent. It is my belief that everyone has artistic talent inherent with being a human being. The trick is to find it and bring it out. That can take time, sometimes a lifetime, but the real thing is, just let it out as it comes. Maybe your early efforts will leave you disappointed and thinking about giving up. That's when you need to have a basic book and practice the shapes, cones, cylinders, and of course, dots & daggers.

When I've lost my "muse", just drag out the old VL, put my Iwatas aside, grab some paper, and just mess around. Sometimes for hours. It helps reground my thoughts and techniques. Then I pull out something I'm working on, and there is a little progress. I always feel better and leave the studio feeling like i've accomplished something! Don't lose sight of the desire to progress, its what feeds the soul......

Hey JC, I'm the dipstick that's been e-mailing you.
I've got some techniques that can help you out big style, any chance you can get your hands on borrowing an overhead projector on board? Did you see the bird skull that Whit put up in the other thread?

Hey Ponder,,,
First,,, an airbrush is a mecanical thing,, like a helichopper,,,
and can be learned,, and learned well with practice !!!
Like swingin a wrench on a mechanical bird !!!
It's after the initial practice and knowledge of the mechanics
that it lets you find your artistic avenues to no limits !!!
Good Luck on it and know your questions are welcome here !!!
Our Prayers are with you on your safe return,, as with all
our Service Personel serving abroad,,, May God Bless !!!!
Oh,,, :happybday:

Welcome JC !

I dunno, I think you sound like a hoot! (ok, and funny as hell!)
I hope your time on ship passes quickly and safely.

My Dad was in the Navy in WWII and then career Coast Guard.
I still am in awe of his bravery at Omaha Beach on D-Day......he doesn't talk about it much, but whoa.

But you know what?
You can practice drawing pics for your 4 yr son.
He'd love picture letters from Dad.
How cool would that be?
He could save them all in a binder, kinda his own comic book from Dad...that you keep adding to........
Heck, by the time you get home, your skills will be cookin' !

As I always say.....airbrushing is 90% mechanical, and 10% painting....so in my opinion, you picked the best art form with your qualifications!!!! Welcome aboard, and please watch out for yourself and your brothers and sisters that you keep in and out of the air!
