I am thinking about purchasing one of these little guys. Read about them but never worked with one or held one for that matter. For you out there that use them, please chime-in and educate me please.

For water based paints, yeah, I guess it would be ok. Not a fan of plastic anything, myself.
For anything solvent based? I'm thinkin it would not work with anything solvent based.

That's cool, I should have explained that it is for water based illustrations that I want to use it for. Thank you Colourshift!

FINE detail work? IMO, i would not go that route.. it might do everything you want, but, pursue the folks here that do illustration and see what they are using for the fine work.

I use an HP-C+ for most of my detail work, switching to a Micron CMC as needed. (commercial illustrator and fine artist)

I wouldn´t recommend Aztek myself, but I know people who absolutly love them. And solvent based paint aint no problem with them, even if they are plastic.

The Azteck company was bought by the Testors Modeling Company! I can't really say about these days but Testors' modeling paint was oil based enamel paint requiring more than water to clean up after! It used to be enamel reducer! I've never used the airbrush but I would guess that it can be used with solvent based paints. But check to make sure! Azteck also had a special model of the same plastic airbrush made out of metal parts. Good Luck!

I really appreciate you guys updating me on the Aztek airbrush. It helps me to make a decision on what to really purchase or investigate further into other brands. Thanks again you all.

But I think the metal version still used the same nozzle system that the ordinary ones used. The metal was more for giving heft.
And in my experience, thé Azteks could soak in thinner or isopropanol for days. No problem. I wouldn´t try really aggresive stuff as acetone or ethylacetate, but normal toluene thinner or white spirit , no problem.
When I was younger and just getting into Ab'ing...I bought a book about painting...Seemed it was sponsored by Aztek cuz I saw the name everywhere in that book....But the work was awesome and I always wanted to get one of those Ab's that could do that kinda work...As the years went by I kept my eyes peeled for more info...Everywhere I looked I saw nothing but bad reports about em...LOL
Sorry, no help, Just a dumb lil story..hahaha!
