anyone have a how-to- torn/ripped metal?

i've looked around and sent a couple pm's to people that have done it, i didn't really get any response, so i'll ask everyone.

also i did add progress pics of it, but then i got really sick. so tonight has been the 1st night in 2.5 weeks i've been able to get back at it.

thought adding some ripped metal might be what it's missing.

Hi Installer, have looked my self mate and ended up gving it a go myself,

Basically once the shape is layed and sprayed it is the shadows, to give folds etc, remembering where your light source is from for the internal and external shadows, shadows as well better being in a darker shade of the background rather than black, but most of this you probaly know better then me.

Only other thing I have seen is either draw cut a mask of stylised rips, or to actually tear paper and use thos edges like a free hand template.

Someone last year posted pics on this very subject...he? she? had torn up several cans and taken pics. I'd query "ripped" metal or "torn" metal.

I know I saw an article on this somewhere fairly recently. I remember the guy using ripped pieces of a paper bag as a free hand mask, then I think the rest was pretty much just shading.
I thought I saw it on here, but it might have been in a magazine. I'll dig through some of my old AB mags and see if I can't find it and get back to ya.

Im new here and dont want to step on any ones toes,but if it helps at all,heres a photo of a R/C car i did.



it started out clear and is painted on the underside.

I made custom shields or masks for each part of the rip. One large part for the main rip and each of the folding metel is a single mask itself...maybe 15 tiny masks total.

Mask the entire area of the rip with the custom masking.
paint the main body.
peel the man mask off the rip.
then do the smaller metel folds last.
lots of fading and shadows each step of the way.

I dont know if it helps at all but give it a try.
